Hello folks! What can I say about myself? Well, all my life I have been a complete fan of quizzes, puzzles, riddles… in fact, any brain-pleaser is just the thing for me in times of utter boredom. I have a whole collection of all sorts of mind games magazines which I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Well, the newest members are some Sudoku magazines… little said some… they’re a lot actually. Well, yes, I admit it: I am a complete Sudoku fanatic!

That’s kind of odd though, I mean I have only recently discovered the game and I consider myself a pretty conservative person (I like to stick to my old and well-known hobbies instead of trying new stuff). You might wonder how I came to let myself drawn into the Sudoku hysteria. Well, it is kind of funny.

Four or five months ago, I went with a group of friends for a week at my uncle’s chalet; humm… did I say group? Well, we were supposed to be around 15 up there, but only 5 actually turned out. Me and two couples, so I can’t say I had the time of my life. The chalet is up the mountain, a quite isolated property, but because it was mid-spring we didn’t expect to face any weather problems. Unfortunately, we did. A storm (more like a flood if you ask me) started from the second day, so the rest of the gang just couldn’t make it. It wasn’t long until the phone was down, too. Need I say that a lightning “happened” to strike the TV-antenna so there was no TV either?

Well, all we could say was: Bummer! I can’t say that the four lovebirds wasted any time; they didn’t get bored at all, unlike me, of course. The first few days were awful: I was lying in bed all day long; I actually started to feel like a vegetable when I got to the point when I started sneaking through my uncle’s drawers. I found some newspapers and some magazines. After reading last month’s “latest” I finally started sniffing through the magazines. I was surprised to find out that besides two or three Cosmos (which I assume belonged to my cousin) they were all Sudoku magazines.

I had heard of the game before, but I had never been curious enough to try and figure out what it was all about. Well, back then it was an emergency. I read the rules once or twice, grabbed a pencil and some sheets of paper and started solving puzzles. It wasn’t until a couple of hours that the magic was torn apart by Chris (a friend) who called me down to dinner.

Need I say that the next few days were something like Sudoku here, Sudoku there, Sudoku everywhere?!? Things got better, I had a new friend. Somehow I felt connected to the game, and that’s why, the first thing I did when I got back to civilization: I bought a couple of Sudoku magazines. My very first ones! I’ve gotten pretty good at it, so I’m thinking of signing up for a competition or something like that. Wish me luck!
